Terry Gornell

Gornell re-debut for the third time five days later, in a 1–0 loss against Plymouth Argyle. In the next two games, Gornell scored twice in two different games against Oxford United on 10 February 2015 and against Southend United on 14 February 2015.

In his second season at the club, Gornell scored his first goal of the season on 8 October 2014, in the second round of Football League Trophy, in a 3–1 loss against Bristol City. Weeks later on 18 October 2014, Gornell scored a brace, in a 3–2 win against Northampton Town. With six months left to his contract, Gornell left the club by mutual consent following the arrival of Paul Buckle.

On 10 January 2013, Gornell signed for Rochdale permanently until the end of the season. However, Gornell failed to score since he turned his move to Rochdale permnantly and at the end of the 2012–2013 season, Gornell was among eight players to be released by the club.

On 12 July 2013, Gornell signed for League Two side Cheltenham Town on a two-year contract.

Gornell made his Cheltenham Town debut in the opening game of the season, in a 2–2 draw against Burton Albion. Gornell scored two goals in two games against Oxford United on 14 September 2013 and Torquay United on 21 September 2013. Gornell scored his third goal of the season, in a 3–0 win over Morecambe on 22 October 2013. However, Gornell scored only four goals in thirty-eight appearance in all competition.

On 9 November 2012, Gornell signed for Rochdale on a one-month loan deal.

He made his debut the following day, in a 2–1 win against Wycombe Wanderers. Weeks later on 23 November 2012, Gornell scored his first goal, in a 3–1 loss against Southend United. Gornell then scored a brace on 7 December 2012, in a 3–2 loss against Exeter City. Coincidentally, it saw Gornell extend his loan spell with Rochdale until 5 January 2013. A week later on 29 December 2012, Gornell scored another brace, in a 4–2 win over Bradford City.

On 4 July 2011, Gornell was named as a Shrewsbury Town player after agreeing terms with the club; however, negotiations remain ongoing with the fee that Accrington will receive from Shrewsbury for the striker. Gornell agreed terms with and transferred to Shrewsbury Town on 5 July 2011.

He made his debut in the opening game of the season, coming on as a substitute for Marvin Morgan in the 89th minute, in a 1–1 draw against Plymouth Argyle, and scored his first goal as a Shrewsbury Town player in a 1–1 draw with Burton Albion on 13 August 2011. Gornell then scored, in the first round of the FA Cup, in a 1–0 win against Newport County. Gornell helped the club promoted to League One and scored nine more goals in forty-one league appearance in his first season at the club, including a brace against Rotherham United on 14 April 2012. During the season, Gornell attracted from Preston North End and Rochdale.

On 27 August 2010, Gornell signed on a free transfer for Accrington Stanley on his return with a two-year contract. Gornell then made his Accrington Stanley return the next day, in a 0–0 draw against Oxford United. Weeks later on 17 September 2010, Gornell scored his first goals, in a 3–0 win over Lincoln City After the match, Gornell credited Manager John Coleman for helping him ended "his goalscoring duck". By the end of his first half of the season, Gornell scored six goals in sixteen appearance. Gornell soon added seven more goals by the end of the season, including another brace, in a 4–0 win over Hereford United on 29 March 2011. Gornell scored a total of 13 goals from defence in 49 appearances during Accrington's 2010–11 campaign, finishing as Accrington's joint top goalscorer for the season alongside Phil Edwards and Sean McConville.

At the start of the 2009–10 season, Gornell made a good start when he scored and set one of the fourth goal, in a 4–2 win over Gillingham on 15 August 2009, which he did the same thing against Southend United on 23 November 2009. Weeks later on 8 December 2009, Gornell scored again, in a 2–1 win over Aldershot Town in the second round of FA Cup replay. He then received a straight red card after stamping Billy Paynter, which saw Tranmere Rovers lose 3–0 to Swindon Town and turning out to be his last appearance of the season Gornell went on to make twenty-seven appearance and scoring twice this season. In the 2010–11 season, Gornell featured for three matches at the start of the season, but his first team opportunities was soon limited following the arrivals of Adam McGurk, Lucas Akins and Sam Morrow.

Born in Liverpool, Gornell joined Tranmere Rovers at a young age and after coming through the club's academy, Gornell signed his first professional contract with the club in May 2008. This came after Gornell appeared on the first team bench as an un-used substitute in numbers of occasions in the 2007–08 season. While at the club's academy, Gornell considered Wayne Allison as his mentor.

Ahead of the new 2008–09 season, Gornell was given number fourteen shirt. Gornell made his début for Tranmere Rovers, coming on as a substitute in the 82nd minute, away to Grimsby Town, in the 2–0 defeat in the League Cup on 12 August 2008. Upon his return to Tranmere Rovers, Gornell's first league appearance for Tranmere Rovers since he was at Accrington Stanley came on 25 November 2008, making his first start for the club, in a 2–0 win over Scunthorpe United. Three months after his return, Gornell scored his first Tranmere Rovers goal against Milton Keynes Dons on 21 February 2009. Gornell ended up making ten appearance for the club. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Gornell signed a two-year contract with the club.

He went on loan to Accrington Stanley on a one-month deal on 20 September 2008. The same day, Gornell made his Accrington Stanley debut, coming on as a substitute for Jamie Clarke in the 46th minute, in a 3–0 loss against Darlington. Gornell scored three goals in three games against Bradford City, Luton Town and Shrewsbury Town. Gornell went on to score four goals in 11 Football League games before returning to Tranmere. Gornell stated his loan spell at Accrington Stanley helped him lots of things well and described "dealing with the pressures of first-team football" as "a big learning experience".
