Thomas A. Beckett was a prolific composer and arranger of music for the stage, film, and television. He wrote the music for over 200 films, including the classic British films The Lady Vanishes (1938) and The 39 Steps (1935). He also wrote the music for the popular television series The Avengers (1961-1969). Beckett was born in Brompton, Kent, England, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He began his career as a music arranger for the BBC in the 1930s. He then moved to Hollywood in the 1940s, where he wrote the music for many films. Beckett was married twice, first to actress and singer Dorothy Dickson and then to actress and singer Mary Ellis. He had two children, a son and a daughter. Beckett died in Los Angeles, California, on April 15, 1975, at the age of 67. He was buried in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
