Thomas Sterner is a Swedish economist and professor at the University of Gothenburg. He is a leading expert on environmental economics and has written extensively on the subject. He is the author of several books, including The Political Economy of the Environment and The Economics of Climate Change. Sterner was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 22 March 1952. He received his PhD in economics from the University of Gothenburg in 1982. He has held various positions at the university, including professor of environmental economics since 1997. Sterner has been a visiting professor at several universities, including Harvard University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Los Angeles. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank, the European Commission, and the United Nations. Sterner is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. He is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the Stockholm Environment Institute. Sterner has received numerous awards and honors, including the Volvo Environment Prize in 2000 and the Blue Planet Prize in 2006. He was also awarded the Order of the Polar Star by the King of Sweden in 2008.
