Thorkild Simonsen is a Danish politician who served as Prime Minister of Denmark from 1982 to 1993. He was born on 7 July 1926 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He is the son of a lawyer and a teacher. Simonsen studied law at the University of Copenhagen and graduated in 1951. He then worked as a lawyer and was elected to the Folketing (Danish Parliament) in 1964. He was appointed Minister of Justice in 1971 and held the post until 1975. In 1982, Simonsen was elected Prime Minister of Denmark and served until 1993. During his tenure, he was credited with modernizing the Danish economy and introducing a number of reforms. He also served as the President of the Nordic Council from 1989 to 1990. Simonsen retired from politics in 1993 and has since been involved in a number of charitable and cultural activities. He is a member of the board of the Danish Red Cross and the Danish Refugee Council. As of 2021, Thorkild Simonsen's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.
