Thurman Adams Jr. is an American politician who served as a member of the Delaware Senate from 1973 to 2009. He was born on July 25, 1928 in Bridgeville, Delaware. He attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a degree in business administration. Adams was first elected to the Delaware Senate in 1972 and served until 2009. During his tenure, he served as the Senate Majority Leader from 1981 to 1985 and as the Senate President Pro Tempore from 1985 to 2009. He was also a member of the Delaware House of Representatives from 1967 to 1972. Adams was a strong advocate for education and was instrumental in the passage of the Delaware Education Improvement Act of 1983. He also served on the board of directors of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware State Education Association. Adams was awarded the Order of the First State in 2009 for his service to the state of Delaware. He is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children.
