Tim Curry is an English actor, singer, and composer best known for his roles in the cult classic films The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Clue, and It. He has also appeared in numerous television shows and films, including The Wild Thornberrys, The Worst Witch, and The Three Musketeers.
Curry was born in Grappenhall, Warrington, Cheshire, England, to Patricia (née Preece) and James Curry. He has two older sisters, Judy and Gillian. He attended Kingswood School in Bath, Somerset, and later studied drama at the University of Birmingham.
Curry began his career in the theatre, appearing in productions of The Rivals, The Beggar's Opera, and The Threepenny Opera. He made his film debut in the 1971 film The Statue. Made a rare public appearance on the red carpet at the 19th annual Actors Fund Tony Awards Viewing Party in Los Angeles to receive the organization's lifetime achievement award.
He was offered the chance to reprise his famous role as Pennywise in It (2017) but turned it down. He later praised Bill Skarsgård as a ''great choice'' for the role.
Suffered a major stroke in July 2012. He lost the use of his legs and now requires a wheelchair for mobility. However he is still able to speak lucidly and has done Q&A sessions at conventions. His first professional success was in the London production of "Hair", followed by more work in the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Glasgow Civic Repertory Company, and the Royal Court Theatre where he created the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Show".
