Timothy White is an American journalist and editor. He is best known for his work as the editor-in-chief of Billboard magazine from 1989 to 2002. He was also the editor-in-chief of Spin magazine from 2002 to 2006. White was born on January 25, 1952 in Paterson, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English. White began his career in journalism in the late 1970s, working as a music critic for the Village Voice. He then moved to Rolling Stone, where he served as an editor from 1981 to 1989. In 1989, he was appointed editor-in-chief of Billboard magazine, a position he held until 2002. In 2002, White was appointed editor-in-chief of Spin magazine, a position he held until 2006. He then returned to Billboard, where he served as editor-in-chief until 2009. White has written several books, including The Nearest Faraway Place: Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys, and the Southern California Experience (1994), Catch a Wave: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson (2006), and The Billboard Book of Number One Hits (2003).
