Tine van der Maas is a South African nutritionist and public health specialist. She is the founder and director of the Centre for Nutrition and Health Research in South Africa. She is also a professor of nutrition at the University of Stellenbosch. Van der Maas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1954. She moved to South Africa in 1976 and completed her undergraduate degree in nutrition at the University of Stellenbosch in 1979. She then went on to complete her master's degree in nutrition at the University of Pretoria in 1983. Van der Maas has worked in the field of nutrition and public health for over 30 years. She has conducted research on nutrition and health in South Africa, and has published numerous papers on the subject. She has also served as a consultant to the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and the South African government. Van der Maas is a member of the South African Academy of Science and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences. She is also a Fellow of the Nutrition Society of South Africa.
