Tom Heinsohn is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played his entire nine-year National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Boston Celtics, winning eight NBA championships as a player and two more as head coach. He was also a member of the 1956 United States men's Olympic basketball team that won a gold medal in Melbourne, Australia. Heinsohn was born on August 26, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended St. Michael's High School in Union City, New Jersey, and then went on to attend college at Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was a three-time All-American and led the Crusaders to the 1956 NCAA championship game. Heinsohn was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1956 and played with them until 1965. He was a six-time All-Star and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1957. He was also named to the All-NBA Second Team three times. He was a member of eight NBA championship teams, including the 1959–60, 1960–61, 1961–62, 1962–63, 1963–64, 1964–65, 1965–66, and 1966–67 teams. Heinsohn was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986. He was also inducted into the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1994. Heinsohn was the head coach of the Celtics from 1969 to 1978, leading them to two NBA championships in 1974 and 1976. He was also the head coach of the New Jersey Nets from 1986 to 1988. Heinsohn is currently a television analyst for the Celtics on Comcast SportsNet New England. As of 2021, Tom Heinsohn's net worth is estimated to be $10 million.
