Tommy Hannan is a former American competition swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. He was born on January 14, 1980 in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Michigan Wolverines swimming and diving team. Hannan won a gold medal in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He also won a bronze medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the same Olympics. Hannan has also won several medals at the World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, and U.S. National Championships. He retired from competitive swimming in 2003. Hannan is currently the head coach of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams at the University of Maryland. He is married to former Olympic swimmer and Michigan teammate, Lindsay Benko.
