Ton Scherpenzeel is a Dutch musician, composer, and producer. He is best known as the keyboardist and founding member of the progressive rock band Kayak. He has also released several solo albums and collaborated with other artists. Scherpenzeel was born in Hilversum, Netherlands, on 6 August 1952. He began playing the piano at the age of six and was soon playing in local bands. He studied music at the Hilversum Conservatory and then went on to study composition and arranging at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1972, Scherpenzeel formed the progressive rock band Kayak with fellow musicians Max Werner, Pim Koopman, and Johan Slager. The band released their debut album See See The Sun in 1973 and went on to release several more albums over the next decade. In addition to his work with Kayak, Scherpenzeel has released several solo albums, including The Last Seven Days (1980), The Best of Ton Scherpenzeel (1985), and The Best of Ton Scherpenzeel, Vol. 2 (1995). He has also collaborated with other artists, including Dutch singer/songwriter Jan Rot and Dutch singer/songwriter/producer Jan Akkerman. Scherpenzeel is currently 72 years old.
