Tony Birch is an Australian author, academic, and social commentator. He was born in 1957 in Melbourne, Australia. He is the author of several books, including Blood (2011), Ghost River (2015), and The White Girl (2020). He has also written for The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Guardian. Birch is a senior lecturer in Creative Writing at Victoria University, and a research fellow at the Koori Centre at the University of Sydney. He is a member of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. Birch has been awarded numerous awards for his writing, including the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Indigenous Writing, the NSW Premier's Literary Award for Indigenous Writing, and the Miles Franklin Literary Award.
