Tony Burman is a British journalist and broadcaster. He is the former editor-in-chief of Al Jazeera English and the former managing director of BBC News. He was born on 3 June 1958 in Stockwell, London, United Kingdom. Burman attended the University of Sussex, where he studied English and American literature. After graduating, he worked as a freelance journalist for various publications, including The Guardian, The Observer, and The Sunday Times. In 1988, Burman joined the BBC as a producer and reporter. He went on to become the editor of the BBC's flagship news program, Newsnight, in 1997. He was appointed managing director of BBC News in 2004, a position he held until 2008. In 2006, Burman was appointed editor-in-chief of Al Jazeera English, a position he held until 2011. He is currently a senior advisor to the Qatar Foundation and a visiting professor at the University of Westminster. As of 2021, Tony Burman's net worth is estimated to be approximately $2 million.
