Tony Kokshoorn is a New Zealand politician who was born on 13 February 1955 in New Zealand. He is the current mayor of Grey District, a position he has held since 2004. He is a member of the New Zealand National Party and was previously a Member of Parliament for the West Coast-Tasman electorate from 1996 to 2008. Kokshoorn was educated at Greymouth High School and the University of Canterbury. He was a Grey District Councillor from 1989 to 1996 and was elected mayor of Grey District in 2004. He was re-elected in 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019. Kokshoorn has been involved in a number of initiatives to promote the West Coast region, including the establishment of the West Coast Wilderness Trail and the West Coast Regional Development Strategy. He is also a strong advocate for the protection of the region's environment. Kokshoorn is married to his wife, Jan, and they have two children.
