Tui T. Sutherland is a Venezuelan-American children's writer. She was born on July 31, 1978 in Caracas, Venezuela. She is best known for writing the Wings of Fire series, as well as the Menagerie trilogy and the Pet Trouble series, both under the pen name Heather Williams. She has also written several books under the pen name Tamara Summers. Sutherland has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Williams College and a Master of Arts degree in children's literature from Simmons College. She has been writing since she was a child, and her first book was published in 2003. Sutherland is married to fellow children's author and illustrator, Mike Holmes. They have two children together. Sutherland is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and she is a frequent speaker at schools and libraries. She is also a member of the We Need Diverse Books organization.
