Uanhenga Xitu was a prominent Angolan political leader and freedom fighter who fought for the independence of Angola from Portuguese colonial rule. He was born in Calomboloca, Icolo e Bengo, Angola on 29 August 1924. He was the leader of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), a political party that sought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Angola. Xitu was a major figure in the Angolan War of Independence, leading the FNLA in its fight against the Portuguese. He was also a key figure in the negotiations that led to the independence of Angola in 1975. Xitu was a highly respected leader in Angola, and was known for his commitment to the cause of freedom and justice. He was also a strong advocate for the rights of the Angolan people, and was a major proponent of the African Union. Xitu died on 28 August 2020, at the age of 95. He was buried in his hometown of Calomboloca, Icolo e Bengo, Angola. He is remembered as a great leader and freedom fighter who fought for the independence of Angola.
