He studied at the Escuela de Cine de Barcelona and graduated in 1983. He began his career as a script department in the late 1980s, working on films such as El día de la bestia (1995) and La comunidad (2000). In 2007, Fernández-Tubau began working on the television series El Internado, for which he wrote and directed several episodes. He also wrote and directed the short films El último día (2009) and El último día 2 (2010). In 2014, he began working on the television series Velvet, for which he wrote and directed several episodes.
