Valeriy Abramov is a former Soviet long-distance runner who competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games. He won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the 1980 Olympics and a silver medal in the marathon at the 1984 Olympics. He also won the European Championships in the 10,000 meters in 1982 and the World Cup in the 10,000 meters in 1983. Abramov was born on 22 August 1956 in Yertsevo, Russia. He began his running career in the 1970s and quickly rose to prominence in the Soviet Union. He won the Soviet 10,000 meter title in 1979 and 1980 and the Soviet marathon title in 1983. Abramov retired from competitive running in 1985 and has since become a coach. He currently coaches the Russian national team and has coached several Olympic medalists.
