School of Art in Mumbai, and later worked as a freelance cartoonist for various newspapers and magazines. He has also worked as a cartoonist for the Marathi language newspaper, Lokmat. Vasant Sarwate has been credited with introducing the art of cartooning to the Marathi language. He has also been credited with introducing the concept of political cartoons to the Marathi language. He has been awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in recognition of his contribution to the field of cartooning. Vasant Sarwate is currently 89 years old.
