Vernon Bartlett was an English journalist, politician, and author. He was born in Westbury, Wiltshire, England, on 30 April 1894. He was educated at Clifton College and Balliol College, Oxford. Bartlett began his career as a journalist, working for the Manchester Guardian and the Daily Express. He was a war correspondent during World War I, and later became a foreign correspondent for the Daily Express. In 1929, Bartlett was elected as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Bridgwater, a seat he held until 1945. During his time in Parliament, he was a strong advocate for international disarmament and was a founding member of the League of Nations Union. In 1945, Bartlett left Parliament and returned to journalism. He wrote for the Sunday Times and the Observer, and was a regular contributor to the BBC. He also wrote several books, including The People's Charter (1938) and The People's Peace (1946). Bartlett died on 15 August 1983 in London, England. He was 89 years old.
