Viggo Kampmann was a Danish politician who served as Prime Minister of Denmark from 1960 to 1962. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party and was the first Prime Minister of Denmark to come from the party. Kampmann was born in Frederiksberg, Denmark, on 21 July 1910. He studied law at the University of Copenhagen and graduated in 1934. He then worked as a lawyer and was elected to the Folketing (the Danish Parliament) in 1945. Kampmann served as Minister of Justice from 1951 to 1953 and Minister of Finance from 1953 to 1960. In 1960, he was elected Prime Minister of Denmark and served until 1962. During his tenure, he oversaw the introduction of the Danish Social Security system and the expansion of the Danish welfare state. Kampmann retired from politics in 1962 and died in Copenhagen on 28 April 1972. He was buried in Frederiksberg Cemetery.
