Vijay Shekhar Sharma is an Indian entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of Paytm, India's largest digital payments company. He is also the founder of One97 Communications, which operates Paytm. He was born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, and graduated from Delhi College of Engineering in 1999. Sharma started his career as a software engineer at the National Informatics Centre in Delhi. He then moved to the United States to pursue a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania. After returning to India, he founded One97 Communications in 2000. In 2010, Sharma launched Paytm, a mobile payments and commerce platform. Paytm has since become India's largest digital payments company, with over 300 million users. In 2015, Sharma was named one of the top 10 most influential people in the Indian startup ecosystem by YourStory. Sharma has been recognized for his entrepreneurial achievements, and has been awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2019. He has also been featured in Forbes India's list of the richest Indians for several years.
