Viktor Baturin is a Russian politician and businessman. He is the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and the former head of the Russian Space Agency. He is also the founder and chairman of the board of directors of the Russian Space Corporation Energia. Baturin was born in Moscow on 2 October 1956. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1979 and received a PhD in engineering in 1983. He then worked at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where he was appointed head of the department in 1989. In 1992, Baturin was appointed Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and head of the Russian Space Agency. He was responsible for the development of the Russian space industry and the implementation of the Russian space program.
