Viramachaneni Vimla Devi was an Indian politician and social worker who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Andhra Pradesh from 1967 to 1972. She was the first woman to be elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Vimla Devi was born in Varahapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India on 15 July 1928. She was the daughter of a farmer and was educated at the local school. She was married to Viramachaneni Venkata Subbaiah and had two sons. Vimla Devi was an active member of the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1967. She was the first woman to be elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. She served as an MLA for five years and was a vocal advocate for women's rights and social justice. Vimla Devi was also a member of the All India Women's Conference and the All India Women's Council. She was a strong advocate for the rights of women and children and was a vocal opponent of child marriage. Vimla Devi passed away on 15 April, 2007 at the age of 79. She was a pioneer in the field of women's rights and social justice and her legacy lives on.
