Waldir Azevedo was a Brazilian composer, arranger, and performer of choro music. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 27 January 1923. He was a self-taught musician, and began playing the guitar at the age of seven. He was a member of the group "Os Cariocas" and was a major influence in the development of choro music. He composed over 500 songs, including "Tico-Tico no Fubá", "Caboclinho", and "Ciranda da Rosa Vermelha". He also wrote the soundtracks for several films, including "O Cangaceiro" and "O Homem do Sputnik". He was awarded the National Order of Merit in Brazil in 2002. He died on 17 April 1980 in Rio de Janeiro.
