Walter F. Tichy is a German computer scientist and professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He is best known for his work in software engineering, software process, and software configuration management. Tichy was born in Bad Reichenhall, Germany, and received his diploma in computer science from the Technical University of Munich in 1976. He then went on to receive his doctorate in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe in 1981. Tichy has held various positions in academia, including professor of computer science at the University of Karlsruhe, professor of software engineering at the University of Stuttgart, and professor of software engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He has also held various positions in industry, including director of software engineering at Siemens AG, and director of software engineering at SAP AG. Tichy has authored or co-authored over 200 publications, including the books Software Configuration Management (Addison-Wesley, 1997) and Software Engineering: A Methodical Approach (Springer, 2006). He has also served as editor-in-chief of the journal Software Process: Improvement and Practice. Tichy is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery and a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He has received numerous awards, including the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology's Excellence in Teaching Award, the German Software Engineering Award, and the German Computer Science Award.
