He is best known for his work on the films Zorba the Greek (1964), Tom Jones (1963), and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962). Lassally was born in Berlin, Germany, in 1926. He studied at the University of Berlin and the University of Munich before moving to England in 1951. He began his career in the film industry as a camera assistant and later became a cinematographer. Lassally has worked on over 50 films, including Zorba the Greek (1964), Tom Jones (1963), and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962). He has also directed several films, including The Day the Fish Came Out (1967) and The Trojan Women (1971). Lassally has won numerous awards for his work, including an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for Zorba the Greek (1964), a BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for Tom Jones (1963), and a BAFTA Award for Best Cinematography for The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962).
