Will Butler is an American musician, composer, and actor. He is best known as a multi-instrumentalist and a member of the Grammy Award-winning band Arcade Fire. He has also released two solo albums, Policy (2015) and Generations (2020). Butler was born in The Woodlands, Texas, and grew up in a musical family. His father, Ken Butler, is a composer and multi-instrumentalist, and his mother, Liza, is a singer-songwriter. He began playing music at a young age, and was a member of several bands in high school. In 2003, Butler moved to Montreal, Canada, to attend McGill University. While there, he met his future bandmates in Arcade Fire. The band released their debut album, Funeral, in 2004, and went on to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2011. In 2015, Butler released his debut solo album, Policy. The album was met with critical acclaim, and was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize. In 2020, he released his second solo album, Generations. Butler has also composed music for films, including Her (2013) and The Neon Demon (2016). He has also acted in several films, including The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and The Little Hours (2017).
