William C. Sturtevant was an American anthropologist and ethnohistorian. He was born in 1926 in New Jersey and died in 2007. He was a professor of anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History from 1965 to 1991. Sturtevant was a leading scholar in the field of Native American studies, specializing in the history and culture of the Seminole Indians of Florida. He wrote numerous books and articles on the subject, including The Seminole Indians of Florida (1953), The Creek Indians of Florida (1957), and The Seminole Nation of Florida (1958). He also wrote extensively on the history of the American West, including The Indian and the Horse (1955) and The Indian and the White Man (1962). Sturtevant was a Fellow of the American Anthropological Association and a member of the American Philosophical Society. He was awarded the Viking Fund Medal in Anthropology in 1965 and the Distinguished Service Award from the Society for American Archaeology in 1991. At the time of his death, Sturtevant was 81 years old. His net worth is unknown.

William Curtis Sturtevant (1926 Morristown, New Jersey – March 2, 2007) was an anthropologist and ethnologist. He is best known as the general editor of the 20-volume Handbook of North American Indians. Renowned anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss described the work as "an absolutely indispensable tool that should be found on the shelves of all libraries, public and private alike."

He was the eldest son of the geneticist Alfred Sturtevant. He was married to Theda Maw from 1952 to 1986; they had three children. Sturtevant remarried in 1990, to linguist Sally McLendon. Sturtevant died on March 2, 2007 from emphysema.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1949, and from Yale University with a Ph.D. in 1955, where he was a student of Floyd Lounsbury. He served first as a research anthropologist for the Bureau of American Ethnology before being appointed Curator of North American Ethnology in the U.S. National Museum (later the National Museum of Natural History), Smithsonian Institution.
