Willis Reed is a retired American professional basketball player and coach. He played for the New York Knicks from 1964 to 1974 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982. He was the NBA Most Valuable Player in 1970 and a seven-time All-Star. Reed was born in Hico, Louisiana, and attended Grambling State University, where he became a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. He was drafted by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1964 NBA draft. He was named to the All-NBA first team four times and the All-Defensive first team five times. He was named the NBA Finals MVP in 1970 after leading the Knicks to their first championship. Reed retired from playing in 1974 and went on to coach the Knicks from 1977 to 1978. He was also the head coach of the New Jersey Nets from 1981 to 1985. Reed was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1982. He was also named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. Reed's net worth is estimated to be around $10 million.
