Wolfgang Zeidler is a German lawyer and legal scholar. He is a professor emeritus of public law at the University of Hamburg and a former judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany. Born in Hamburg in 1924, Zeidler studied law at the University of Hamburg and the University of Freiburg. He received his doctorate in law from the University of Hamburg in 1951. In 1954, Zeidler was appointed professor of public law at the University of Hamburg. He held this position until his retirement in 1989. During this time, he also served as a judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany from 1979 to 1989. Zeidler has written extensively on constitutional law, international law, and public law. He has also served as a visiting professor at universities in the United States, Canada, and Japan. Zeidler is a member of the German Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
