Yosef Shapira is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment between 1977 and 1981. He was born on 26 December 1926 in Jerusalem, Mandatory Palestine. Shapira studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was a member of the Haganah. He was a member of the Mapai party and was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment list in 1977. He lost his seat in the 1981 elections. Shapira was a member of the Jerusalem City Council from 1965 until 1977, and was mayor of Jerusalem from 1974 until 1977. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Agency from 1977 until 1981. Shapira is married and has three children. He currently resides in Jerusalem.
