His most notable performance there was an innings of 76 against Pakistan Air Force, in a match where one of his teammates was fast bowler Waqar Younis. After winning the competition, Redco were elevated to the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy for the 1999–2000 season, where matches had first-class status. Zayyad made his sole first-class appearance towards the end of the season, against Agriculture Development Bank at Islamabad's Marghzar Cricket Ground. With the match affected by rain, he had only a single opportunity to bat, and made five runs opening the batting with Naved Ashraf. A right-handed opening batsman, Zayyad scored a half-century in the second innings of the 1997–98 final, and was subsequently selected for the Pakistani under-19 team that toured England in July and August 1998. He made his under-19 Test debut in the third and final Test of the series, played at the County Ground, Chelmsford.
