Zdeněk Fikar is a Slovak figure skater who competed in the 1948 Winter Olympics. He was born on 18 May 1926 in Slovakia. Fikar began skating at the age of seven and was coached by his father. He competed in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where he placed 11th in the men's singles event. He also competed in the 1949 World Championships, where he placed 11th. Fikar retired from competitive skating in 1950 and went on to become a coach. He coached the Czechoslovakian national team from 1952 to 1956 and then coached in the United States from 1956 to 1960. He returned to Czechoslovakia in 1960 and coached there until his retirement in 1975. Fikar is considered one of the most influential figure skating coaches of the 20th century. He is credited with introducing the "Fikar Method" of teaching figure skating, which emphasizes the importance of proper technique and form.
