He then went on to work as a zootechnician at the Beijing Zoo. He was responsible for the breeding and management of the zoo's animals. Zhang Ziyi (zootechnician) was a pioneer in the field of zootechnics and animal husbandry. He was the first to introduce the concept of artificial insemination in China. He also developed a number of techniques for the breeding and management of zoo animals. Zhang Ziyi (zootechnician) was a respected figure in the field of zootechnics and animal husbandry. He was awarded the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1982 and the National Outstanding Contribution Award in 1985. Zhang Ziyi (zootechnician) passed away on 8 April, 2020 at the age of 97. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and four grandchildren.
